Several years ago, our church began using “Covenants of Presence” as a guide for our meetings and conversations with the intent that those covenants will shape our culture as a congregation. The Covenants of Presence are adapted from those used by the Forum for Theological Exploration. They encourage an attitude of openness, confidentiality, respect, and compassion that lead us to honor one another as God’s children made in God’s image. As we focus on signs of the Beloved Community this month in worship and in our Thursday conversations, I encourage you to see how the covenants offer us tools for this holy work.
