Praise the LORD!
Praise God in his sanctuary;
praise him in his mighty firmament!
Praise him for his might deeds;
praise him according to his surpassing greatness!
Praise him with trumpet sound;
praise him with tambourine and dance;
praise him with strings and pipe!
Praise him with clanging cymbals;
praise him with loud clashing cymbals!
Let everything that breathes praise the LORD!
Praise the LORD!
—Psalm 150
The book of Psalms concludes with a call to worship in Psalm 150: “Praise the LORD!” God’s people are beckoned to give praise in the presence of the Holy for “mighty deeds” and “surpassing greatness.” They are called into motion with instruments that make music and bodies that move. You can hear the sounds. See the dance. Arms swaying and feet gliding to swirl and jump. Praise is not a passive sport. It seeks to engage our whole being, so we are all in—heart, mind, body, spirit, soul—wherever we are and whatever we are doing.
Psalm 150 came to mind as I watched a video created by Ed People. He has a YouTube channel dedicated to the joy of dance. People goes up to strangers in public outdoor spaces, asks them to show him their favorite dance move, and records them dancing it together. He encounters people from all around the world and of different ages, so the dances and music span the decades and are diverse in their style and culture of origin. In the clips, you see the joy shared in the dances and in the new connections he makes with others. I hope you enjoy his compilation, “Best of Favorite Dance Moves,” by clicking here.
May we carry this spirit through our days!
Blessings,
